Finally it was lunch time and I headed to the park to meet my sister. I stopped on the way to pick up a sandwich, bag of chips and a bottle of water. I had just taken a bite out of my sandwich when Alex arrived. I smiled and rose to give her a hug. We have not seen in a while as we both work a lot and I have all this drama to deal with. She gave me a gentle squeeze and quickly sat down so that we could talk. I put away my lunch and enquired how she was doing. I was not stalling for time but I really cared about my older sis and wanted to know if she needed anything. She said that she was ok and that her job really keeps her busy. She looked at me straight in the eye and asked what was troubling me. So I started to explain everything about how my life with Christian has been, the DUI, and finally I got to the part about Charles. I told her how we met, how our relationship progressed, my pregnancy and the possible fathers. By the time I was done talking, twenty minutes has passed. Then I dropped the big bomb on her. I told that I am not carrying one baby but two.
She looked at me and did not smile. She did not say a word nor did her face register any kind for shock. After five minutes of this intent staring, I snapped my fingers in front of her face in an effort to wake her up. Then she spoke,
“I do not believe what I am hearing. I am shocked; truly shocked. How could you cheat on your husband? Our parents did not raise you to do these things. If our parents taught us anything, it is that you take your marriage seriously; for better or for worse? Does that statement ring any bells? Ok, let me calm down. Here is my opinion. I think that you need to tell Charles that you cannot be with him because you are already married and you need to work on building back the foundation of your marriage. I know that you and Christian love each other and you just need to find that love again. You need to find the sparks that you had when you first got married. Now, about the babies, you need to find out who the father is. I know that there are tests you can do and you need to do your research and find out which one is right for you. Talk to your doctor about this as well. Your physician should be able to point in the right direction regarding the testing.”
Alex got quiet again. She looked at me and waited for me to say something. I was trying to remember everything that she had said. I guess that she was right but there was only one small. I have feelings for both men and that is what I told her. She thought about it some more and then said “You asked my advice and I told you what I thought. The rest is up to you. I’m sorry sis but I have to leave. I have a one o’clock appointment and I am already running late. Please call me if you need to talk again.” She kissed me on the forehead and left.
I looked at the time and realized that I had to go back to work as well. I gathered up my half eaten lunch and headed back to the office. I got to my desk and sat down. I had not been there five minutes when the phone rang. I saw that it was Charles on the line so I sent his call straight to voice mail. I could not deal with him right now. I had so much to think about. I got through the rest of my work load and took off early hoping to get home and just relax in a warm bubble bath. I got home and relieved to find that no one was at home yet so I went into my room and closed the door. I started the warm water for the tub and was joyfully undressing when I heard a strange noise in the house.
